Lyrics

Whiskey Rain by Tony Zain

Got a bottle of Kentucky Whiskey; I’m just tryin’ to keep warm
The road is wet and icy from a Colorado storm
Winding like a rattle snake I could barely see
Some trucker lost his brakes and he’s headin’ straight for me

Yeah, I rolled my rusty pickup truck off of Highway 66
I thought my days were numbered when I saw a big o’ pile bricks
But fortune smiled upon still I took out a picket fence
I barely missed an oak tree but I felt an eerie sense

Rain, whiskey rain fallin’ down from across my skyline
Rain, I’m goin’ down the drain; a drunkard shame makin’ angels cry

They pulled me from the wreckage; they used them “jaws of life”
I would have rathered that they left me there to slit my wrist with a dull, dull knife
Now I woke up in the hospital hand cuffed to the bed
The sheriff read me my rights looked at me and then he said

“Hangin’ from that oak tree was one of those ol’ fashion swing
You was passed the legal limit son; you didn’t hear or see a thing [now did ya?]
What that law man told me next brought down my selfish world
Swingin’ on that oak tree was a seven year old girl”

Rain, whiskey rain falling down across the skyline
I cried rain, I’m goin’ down the drain; a drunkard shame makin’ angels cry

No one want’s to hear it. Well you reap what you done sewed
You best be thinkin’ twice son before you “have one for the road”
It started off so innocent I was just tryin’ to keep warm
“Don’t get behind the wheel son, don’t ride that whiskey storm”

Rain whiskey rain falling down from across my skyline
Rain, I’m goin’ down the drain; a drunkard shame little angel died

Rain, it’s a damn shame, how life can change in the wink of an eye,
Train prison train take these chains; just let me die
